9:16

Unknown: Director Rose. Here. Director Bowie-Thompson. Present. Director Fishman. Here. Director Herber.

9:23

Unknown: Here. Vice President Kurth. Here. Director Sanborn. Here. President Tamayo. Here. All directors are

9:30

SPEAKER_11: present. And now I'll ask Director Fishman to read our 2030 climate action tip. Sure. SMUD is working

9:38

SPEAKER_04: towards 100% zero carbon by 2030 and there's a lot that the public can do to help us lead the

9:44

SPEAKER_04: global clean power city movement. As spring approaches it's a great time to schedule

9:48

SPEAKER_04: maintenance on your HVAC system including replacing filters and checking ducts for leaks.

9:55

Unknown: A well maintained system runs more efficiently and uses less energy to heat or cool your home.

10:00

SPEAKER_04: Check out smud.org slash rebates for rebates and special promotions on electrical appliance options

10:07

SPEAKER_04: and you can join the charge and visit clean power city.org. Thank you. If there are no

10:14

SPEAKER_03: corrections, changes or additions, I'll entertain a motion to approve the agenda. So moved. I'll

10:20

SPEAKER_08: second. Okay. Moved by Director Herber. Seconded by Director Sanborn. Directors, please vote.

10:30

SPEAKER_03: The agenda is approved with all directors voting yes.

10:38

Unknown: All right. And now we'll move to our committee chair reports. Director Herber,

10:43

SPEAKER_03: chair of the policy committee, will give the report of the March 11, 2026 meeting.

10:50

Unknown: Thank you, Mr. President. The policy committee met on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. There were two

10:58

SPEAKER_08: informational items. The first informational item was to discuss the process and principles

11:05

SPEAKER_08: for renewable energy development. Topics included how SMUD procures renewable energy, three ways.

11:14

SPEAKER_08: Number one, developing projects through construction contracts. Number two,

11:20

SPEAKER_08: jointly developing projects. And number three, purchasing the power through power purchase

11:27

SPEAKER_08: agreements or PPAs. And lastly, executing PPAs through third party proposals. SMUD has a long

11:37

SPEAKER_08: history of environmental leadership through Strategic Directive 7. We have a robust review

11:45

SPEAKER_08: process of proposed projects to identify potential environmental impacts. SMUD's principles for

11:53

SPEAKER_08: renewable energy development include developing carbon free renewable energy in a manner that

12:01

SPEAKER_08: supports the community, protects the environment, and respects human rights. These principles provide

12:09

SPEAKER_08: guidance for the siting, design, construction, and operation of SMUD's clean energy projects.

12:18

SPEAKER_08: The six principles cover land use, design and construction, sustainable lifecycle management,

12:26

SPEAKER_08: sustainable regional workforce, and sustainable materials and equipment.

12:34

Unknown: President Tamayo created an ad hoc committee consisting of President Tamayo, Director Sanborn,

12:43

SPEAKER_08: and Director Herber as the chair of the committee to review potential changes to Strategic

12:50

SPEAKER_08: Direction Number 7 that would reflect the principles for renewable energy development

12:57

SPEAKER_08: as they may be modified in response to the discussion. The second informational item

13:04

SPEAKER_08: was a review of the board work plan. This concludes my report.

13:09

SPEAKER_08: Thank you. And now Director Rose, chair of the Finance and Audit Committee,

13:16

SPEAKER_03: will give the report of the March 17, 2026 meeting.

13:21

Unknown: Right, thank you President Tamayo. So the Finance and Audit Committee met. We had four informational

13:26

SPEAKER_01: items and one discussion item. The first informational item was a report on SMUD's

13:31

SPEAKER_01: 2025 independent audit. The auditor found that there were no material weaknesses or significant

13:38

SPEAKER_01: deficiencies in controls, which is excellent. The second informational item was on SMUD's 2025

13:44

SPEAKER_01: financial results. SMUD had a net positive year. We had lower commodity expenditures and lower

13:50

SPEAKER_01: operating expenditures than expected. The third item was a report on SMUD's financial results

13:58

SPEAKER_01: for the month of January, 2026 and a summary of SMUD's current power supply costs.

14:05

SPEAKER_01: The fourth informational item was internal audit on grants, administrations and GO165

14:11

SPEAKER_01: transmission line maintenance. And the discussion item was a request to extend SMUD's contract with

14:16

SPEAKER_01: the TRC engineers to help administer the complete energy solutions program, which helps businesses

14:22

SPEAKER_01: become more energy efficient and reduce their energy bills. This item is number four on the

14:27

SPEAKER_01: consent calendar. That concludes the report. Thank you.

14:35

Unknown: Thank you Director Rose. And now Director Bowie Thompson, Chair of the Energy Resources and

14:41

SPEAKER_03: Customer Services Committee, will give the report of the March 17, 2026 meeting.

14:47

Unknown: Thank you. We had one discussion item from that meeting. The discussion item was the approval of

14:53

SPEAKER_05: the memorandum of understanding between SMUD and IBUW Local 1245 for the period beginning January

15:00

SPEAKER_05: 1, 2026 through December 31, 2028. This is item number six on the board's consent calendar.

15:07

SPEAKER_05: That concludes my report. Thank you. At this time, we will take comments from the public

15:15

SPEAKER_03: on the consent calendar. I don't have any cards. Do we have any requests to speak?

15:20

Unknown: No, we do not. Okay. All right. So the consent calendar consists of the following items. Number

15:29

SPEAKER_03: three is to approve board member compensation for service rendered at the request of the board for

15:36

SPEAKER_03: the period of February 16, 2026 through March 15, 2026. Number four is the approval of the minutes

15:45

SPEAKER_03: of the meeting of February 19, 2026. Item number five was reviewed at the Finance and Audit Committee

15:53

SPEAKER_03: of March 17, 2026. And that pertains to a contract with TRC engineers. Item number six was reviewed

16:02

SPEAKER_03: at the ERCS meeting of March 17, 2026, which pertains to the MOU between SMUD and IBUW Local 1245.

16:14

SPEAKER_03: If there are no corrections or changes or additions, I will entertain a motion to approve the consent calendar.

16:28

Unknown: Did somebody second? Second. Director Kurth moved the item and seconded by Director

16:39

SPEAKER_03: Fishman. I think you wanted to comment. Yeah, I did. I don't know if anybody else on the dais

16:46

SPEAKER_04: does. I just wanted to acknowledge, you know, we're approving a contract for IBEW and this was,

16:55

SPEAKER_04: you know, this sounds like it's always it's on the consent calendar. It's just a pro forma kind of

16:59

SPEAKER_04: thing. It's absolutely not. It's one of the most important things that we do as a board to approve

17:04

SPEAKER_04: these kinds of agreements. And one of the most important things that our staff does to work

17:09

SPEAKER_04: to reach out and to work with our represented employees and make sure that there's some kind

17:13

SPEAKER_04: of agreement. And, you know, the work that all SMUD employees does is incredibly important.

17:22

SPEAKER_04: Certainly the IBEW folks, and we have some in the room tonight, these are the people that

17:27

SPEAKER_04: literally keep the lights on. They're working in storm conditions. They're working in heat wave

17:31

SPEAKER_04: conditions. I think that this contract reflects the respect that we have for you and the work you

17:40

SPEAKER_04: do and the dedication that you show to this community through the work that you do. So I

17:45

SPEAKER_04: just wanted to acknowledge that while this is on the consent calendar, it's a big deal and it's

17:49

SPEAKER_04: important and we appreciate the work you do. Director Kurth, did you?

17:56

SPEAKER_03: No.

18:02

SPEAKER_06: I just want to second that. Really appreciate all the work of our employees across the organization,

18:08

SPEAKER_06: but this is a very big deal and rightfully just mention it and thank you all for your work.

18:17

SPEAKER_08: Dave?

18:17

SPEAKER_06: I'm glad we have an agreement.

18:18

SPEAKER_06: Director Herver?

18:22

Unknown: Yeah, well, I'll third it, you know, and just say that we are very glad that we have an agreement.

18:29

SPEAKER_08: We love our linemen and respect you and I'm glad that folks were able to work together

18:38

SPEAKER_08: to come up with a fair agreement.

18:40

SPEAKER_08: Director Rose?

18:46

Unknown: I'll just echo a little bit. I just wanted to thank the IBEW reps and the staff for all the

18:53

SPEAKER_01: time. It went on, I think, longer than anyone expected and I want to take that moment to thank

18:59

SPEAKER_01: you for your time and effort. I also want to thank the SMUD staff and their negotiating team. A lot

19:05

SPEAKER_01: of hours got put into these efforts and I think it's a good balance between protecting ratepayers

19:13

SPEAKER_01: in Sacramento but also respecting the employees and our staff. I'll say as a state worker and

19:20

SPEAKER_01: rank and file state worker in my day job, the state is always teetering on the balance of balancing

19:25

SPEAKER_01: its budget on the staff and SMUD doesn't operate that way which I think is a great thing. I would

19:31

SPEAKER_01: never want to echo. I think this contract reflects that, the respect both for the management and the

19:38

SPEAKER_01: employees and also respecting the people of Sacramento counties that ultimately own the

19:44

SPEAKER_01: organization. So thank you everybody.

19:49

Unknown: Well, I of course would like the opportunity to speak now. I just didn't want to try and follow

19:54

SPEAKER_07: the eloquence of Director Fishman there because he always sounds so great and I always sound so

20:00

SPEAKER_07: good. So should Director Rose be slighted? He'll speak to me later, I'm sure. I just want to thank

20:08

SPEAKER_07: everyone involved in this. I know sometimes these things can get very excited because a lot is at

20:16

SPEAKER_07: stake and it's not just the money but it's also the respect and the presence in the community and

20:22

Unknown: feeling like you matter in ways that are appreciated. So let me just say to all the

20:28

SPEAKER_07: staff, you know the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that do so much good for us

20:35

SPEAKER_07: all the time and to the management staff that manage to get together with everybody to work

20:40

SPEAKER_07: something out. I know it's not hard or I'm sorry I know it's not easy and then it's hard to forget

20:46

SPEAKER_07: afterwards, that's where I was going, some of the hurt feelings along the way but let's

20:54

SPEAKER_07: understand that's part of the process and move on to a better time now and get back to work.

20:58

Unknown: Back to the way things used to be, I guess it'd be the way I'd say it. So thanks and glad you're

21:02

SPEAKER_07: all here tonight for this. Well I'll just say thanks to the

21:11

Unknown: teams on both sides that you know went through actually kind of a long process but eventually

21:17

SPEAKER_03: got to an agreement that your IBEW membership approved of and I do want to express my thanks to

21:27

Unknown: not only the line workers but all the other IBEW staff and I won't try to name them all,

21:34

SPEAKER_03: I know there's a lot of different classifications but there's a whole lot of folks out there that

21:39

SPEAKER_03: are instrumental in making this whole system work, doing the hands-on work. So couldn't do it without

21:47

SPEAKER_03: you and I'm glad that we're able to reach this agreement. So that being said I guess we're ready

21:53

SPEAKER_03: to vote so unless Director Buie-Thompson did you? Okay all right directors please vote.

22:03

Unknown: The consent calendar is approved with all directors voting yes. Congratulations.

22:09

Unknown: All right so we will move on to our next item.

22:17

Unknown: At this time we will allow the public to comment on items not on the agenda but within our

22:22

SPEAKER_03: jurisdiction. Do we have any requests? No we do not. All right so at this point we provide the

22:33

SPEAKER_03: directors an opportunity to report on SMUD activity. We will begin with a report from Director Rose in

22:39

SPEAKER_03: Ward 1 and continue in ward order with the President's report as the final item. Director

22:44

SPEAKER_03: Rose. Right thank you President Tamayo. Just a couple of interesting I think highlights. I'll

22:52

SPEAKER_01: start with a couple of chamber events out at the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and their legislative

22:58

SPEAKER_01: reception representing SMUD there and I also was out at the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce

23:04

SPEAKER_01: at their community awards celebration as well. So it's just good to be out in the in the district

23:12

SPEAKER_01: and engaging with our local small business community as well and we have really

23:16

SPEAKER_01: excellent wraps. It was good one of the highlights of going to these events is getting to spend the

23:21

SPEAKER_01: time with our staff and really hearing all about the individual projects that they've been working

23:26

SPEAKER_01: on all over the region. I'll also highlight the ribbon cutting. I was out in Orangeville. It's the

23:33

SPEAKER_01: Beach Hill affordable apartments and this is just a few minutes where I live and it's been basically

23:40

SPEAKER_01: an empty hole in the ground my whole life. But in the last few years they've used some of these

23:47

SPEAKER_01: different environmental exemptions and they've been able to leverage some of this housing money

23:51

SPEAKER_01: that the state's made available and SMUD was able to come in and engage them to make this zero carbon

23:57

SPEAKER_01: development as well. And so it's one of the like one of the one of the new sort of early affordable

24:03

SPEAKER_01: housing developments in the Orangeville area. So it was really fantastic. It's great to see.

24:09

SPEAKER_01: So I was out at that and then I also got out and said I know some of the other board members did as

24:13

SPEAKER_01: well. Got out to the clean start meetup and the focus was on batteries and like virtual power

24:19

SPEAKER_01: plants and just a really excellent evening with some of the local entrepreneurs who are very active

24:25

SPEAKER_01: in the battery space including like LiCap and Core Power as well. And so it was really great to see

24:33

SPEAKER_01: that and great to see SMUDs in our engagement and helping promote these businesses as they grow.

24:39

SPEAKER_01: And I think the last thing I will mention is just the getting out to the civic well

24:43

SPEAKER_01: policy makers conference. I know several of you will discuss that as well but I had some really

24:47

SPEAKER_01: interesting conversations with some city council members and supervisors from different parts of

24:52

SPEAKER_01: the state about energy and their community choice aggregation work and just brainstorming some

24:58

SPEAKER_01: generations and just different ideas I think. The order to sort of bring back to SMUD I think

25:03

SPEAKER_01: will really help us in the long run. It will be a really valuable conference. That will be all

25:08

SPEAKER_01: for me tonight. Thank you. All right. Thank you. Next is Director Bowie Thompson. Thank you. I had

25:16

SPEAKER_05: the pleasure of attending many events but I won't go through all of them. One that I've been doing

25:21

SPEAKER_05: for I believe over a decade now is the Sacramento Business Journal's Mentoring Monday event where

25:28

SPEAKER_05: women from various parts of the career seek advice on how to progress, how to negotiate

25:35

SPEAKER_05: a pain crease, how to change positions. And I always find this one of the most rewarding

25:42

SPEAKER_05: events that we get invited in. Thank you for SMUD for sponsoring yet another event. I also attended

25:49

SPEAKER_05: the Sacramento speaker series where author Anthony Ray Hinton spoke about his over 30 years

25:56

SPEAKER_05: in incarceration with little to no evidence. And to hear how he's yet to be compensated

26:03

SPEAKER_05: from the state of Alabama for this incarceration as wrongful incarceration just reminds us, you know,

26:10

SPEAKER_05: it's we try to do the right thing in our lives and sometimes things don't work out but this

26:15

Unknown: gentleman changed that around and really has tried to forgive and move on. I don't know if I would be

26:24

SPEAKER_05: that gracious to the state of Alabama but he's spending his life now talking about forgiveness

26:31

SPEAKER_05: and talking about moving on and mentoring people. I have many of my family who have spent time

26:36

SPEAKER_05: wrongfully incarcerated in our prison system and we still have a lot to go and so we look at our

26:42

SPEAKER_05: customers who are hurting, look at our customers for various reasons. It just reminds us that life

26:48

SPEAKER_05: is precious and your freedom is precious and that we need to every day, you know, live the best

26:56

SPEAKER_05: life that we can and help others even when dealt a really hard hand. So it was just a reminder to

27:04

SPEAKER_05: all of us. I also had the honor of presenting an award at the Rainbrough Chamber of Commerce

27:10

SPEAKER_05: to the nonprofit of the year and then I also was there with Paul Lau who accepted the Corporate

27:16

SPEAKER_05: Citizenship Award on behalf of SMUD. We've been a long time partner with the Rainbrough Chamber

27:21

SPEAKER_05: so we're very honored to receive these awards. Thank you.

27:31

SPEAKER_03: Next is Director Fishman, Ward 3. Thank you. Got a few things to talk about. Was able to say a few

27:38

SPEAKER_04: words to a group of folks, a partnership between SMUD and the Sacramento County Office of Economic

27:44

SPEAKER_04: Development at the Fulton Avenue Business Walk. So they were getting together to really do outreach

27:49

SPEAKER_04: to the businesses along that Fulton Avenue corridor. What can SMUD do to help them? What can the county

27:53

SPEAKER_04: office do to help them be more successful in small businesses? Paul is racking up the awards

28:03

SPEAKER_04: and the recognition and so it was a pleasure to be at the Sacramento Business Journal Most Admired

28:08

SPEAKER_04: CEO Award where Paul was recognized for his service to the community and also my boss at my

28:15

SPEAKER_04: day job Henry Lee was also awarded as being recognized as being one of the most admired CEOs.

28:24

SPEAKER_04: I got to spend a little bit of time at Cameron Ranch Elementary School for Read Across America Day

28:31

SPEAKER_04: and a memorable experience because they gave me a book to read about a dog with bad breath and the

28:36

SPEAKER_04: children seemed to really love that one. The dog's name was Halitosis. I did attend the Civic Well

28:45

SPEAKER_04: Policymakers Conference in Yosemite and as Director Rose mentioned this is an incredibly

28:50

SPEAKER_04: valuable conference. I will tell you it's a there's lots of SMUD envy in the room as people kind of

28:59

SPEAKER_04: understand what SMUD is doing in our community and they wish they had something like us I guess.

29:07

SPEAKER_04: And then finally I don't know if I'm going to be able to convey this as well as I wish but I got

29:14

SPEAKER_04: to present a couple of awards at the regional kid wind competition. So this is a competition for

29:22

SPEAKER_04: middle schoolers where they all start with the same kind of kit of for a wind turbine and they

29:28

SPEAKER_04: get to design the gearing and the gear ratios and the blade size and shape and all this stuff and

29:33

SPEAKER_04: then they actually test them in a wind turbine or I'm sorry in a wind tunnel to see which ones

29:39

SPEAKER_04: actually produce the most electricity. So there's teams from all over the Sacramento region, a team

29:45

SPEAKER_04: from Sacramento Country Day School was one of the winners so that that's kind of cool they're in my

29:50

SPEAKER_04: ward. The other winning team that was recognized I'm sorry I don't remember what school they were

29:55

SPEAKER_04: from and I will find out but it was two young girls their mothers were there to support them

30:04

SPEAKER_04: their mothers were wearing hijabs and they were clearly from an immigrant community and they were

30:09

SPEAKER_04: so proud of their daughters that it makes me cry it really does and that's what this country is about

30:18

SPEAKER_04: bringing people from diverse backgrounds into this country to learn things to know things to

30:24

Unknown: to experience freedom in a way that they might not have been able to in whatever home country

30:30

SPEAKER_04: they're from. I need to find out more about where they're from I wasn't able to stay and talk to them

30:36

SPEAKER_04: I'm really sorry about that but these these two young girls are going on to a national competition

30:42

SPEAKER_04: in Minnesota and I'm just really really proud that SMUD gets a role in doing that.

30:49

Unknown: Thank you Director Fishman. Director Herbert. Thank you Mr. President. It's always hard to go

31:00

SPEAKER_08: after Director Fishman but especially when he's crying so I do want to say it was a very very very

31:10

SPEAKER_08: busy month started off celebrating Black History at the Roberts Family Development Center

31:19

SPEAKER_08: young woman Alika Bernard is doing a choir out there and so she brought these young people out

31:29

SPEAKER_08: to sing about freedom and it was just really wonderful so a wonderful shout out to the

31:37

SPEAKER_08: Roberts Family Development Center then I also was able to have a night of art it turns out our

31:48

SPEAKER_08: building leadership talent group put on a fundraiser and one of our employees taught us how to

31:58

SPEAKER_08: paint fish and I never thought that I would enjoy something like that I just wanted to help the BLT

32:06

SPEAKER_08: folks but it really was calming and and restful so I think I'll be doing a little bit more art in

32:15

SPEAKER_08: the future one of my favorite things though is speaking in the community and I was able to speak

32:23

SPEAKER_08: at the Women and Girls Commission celebrating women and girls for the you know the Women's Day

32:35

SPEAKER_08: the Soroptimists of which I'm a member they helped put on the event and there were a lot of women

32:43

SPEAKER_08: that were there learning about other groups that can help them learning about ways to

32:52

SPEAKER_08: become entrepreneurs learning about health issues learning about opportunities for jobs in the

33:00

SPEAKER_08: community it was really a great event and so I want to thank the Women and Girls Commission

33:07

SPEAKER_08: for putting that on I also want to mention that the National Association of Women Business Owners

33:16

SPEAKER_08: or NABO held the 30th annual OWL Awards and two of my good buddies were nominated Kim Tucker and

33:26

SPEAKER_08: Dr. Janice Thompson while neither of them won it gave us all an opportunity to thank them for all

33:34

SPEAKER_08: that they do in the community and then last but not least I had lunch with a Mario Black and

33:42

SPEAKER_08: Brittany Davis of Rise Women of Business this is a new group that started up in Elk Grove by these

33:53

SPEAKER_08: two women and they work with women entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses and to bring

34:01

SPEAKER_08: in different speakers that will be helpful for their businesses and they have over 60 members

34:09

SPEAKER_08: and growing so that's a group that I'm hoping that SMUD can connect up with and fold it into our

34:19

SPEAKER_08: economic development stuff so with that I'll turn it back to you Mr. President. All right thank you.

34:29

SPEAKER_03: Next is Director Kirk. Thank you there's it was a very busy month yeah the first one I want to

34:36

SPEAKER_07: start off with is Street Soccer USA had their annual event what on the 19th in the morning

34:45

SPEAKER_07: and if you're not familiar with street soccer their mission is to fight poverty and strengthen

34:48

SPEAKER_07: communities through soccer and so they run soccer clinics soccer teams soccer competitions

34:55

SPEAKER_07: mostly along Broadway just outside my ward I'm sorry to report but really all over the country

35:02

SPEAKER_07: and so they had their annual event and it's just so heartwarming to hear about the people whose

35:06

SPEAKER_07: lives have been bootstrapped to a much better place by learning to play soccer with their

35:11

SPEAKER_07: friends. Next up I was at the American Public Power Association legislative rally in Washington DC

35:18

SPEAKER_07: it continues to be a very strange place to visit just now but there's you know SMUD's one of what

35:25

SPEAKER_07: over 5,000 municipal utilities in the country and this is the one chance for everyone to get together

35:30

SPEAKER_07: and plot strategy for the next year and to figure out best practices and so it's always a big eye

35:35

SPEAKER_07: opener and learn an awful lot while I'm there from people and we're able to really share with others

35:41

SPEAKER_07: some of the great ideas that we've had and are working on here. I too stopped by the kid win but

35:46

SPEAKER_07: Greg and I missed each other it was fascinating to me I'm an engineer and so to see the kids

35:52

SPEAKER_07: building the blades you know they had pretty much this little windmill they had this great air

35:58

SPEAKER_07: turbines or I'm sorry wind tunnel set up to test them with and they had all the graphs and all

36:04

SPEAKER_07: that but they had to make the blades themselves and so they were everything from hot melt glue

36:10

SPEAKER_07: with cardboard to 3D printed blades like you'd expect to see over in Solano County and so

36:18

SPEAKER_07: off they went to the competition they had the most fun there with what they were doing

36:23

SPEAKER_07: and I of course handed out job applications to all of them so that maybe we can get a few of them

36:29

SPEAKER_07: to show up here someday and last one I too attended the Civic Well Policymakers Conference and

36:36

Unknown: I guess just to add to what Director Rose said about it

36:42

Unknown: energy and the cost of energy and the difficulty of working with utilities is on every county

36:50

SPEAKER_07: supervisor and every city council member's mind they talk about it regularly this conference

36:55

SPEAKER_07: mostly of elected officials in fact almost exclusively and at every table we were at that's

37:00

SPEAKER_07: what they wanted to talk about because they know what a big gouge it is to their

37:06

SPEAKER_07: their constituents pockets of course paying some of these outrageous power bills but it's also an

37:11

SPEAKER_07: entire system that they don't like of feeling ignored and belittled and somehow lost in the

37:18

SPEAKER_07: shuffle of large organizations and so yeah the SMUD envy was palpable I had to tell them all that

37:24

SPEAKER_07: we can't annex them we're sorry but there's so many good lessons to pass on there too

37:33

Unknown: and with that I'll yeah there was almost 25 days of SMUD events in the last month so

37:39

SPEAKER_07: let me stop there all right and next is Director Sanborn and Ward 7. Thank you President Tamayo

37:47

SPEAKER_06: I wanted to start by again congratulating our CEO Paul Lau for his being most admired CEO

37:54

SPEAKER_06: we're just so honored to celebrate you and I'm just was thrilled to be there to celebrate with

37:59

SPEAKER_06: you and your family and all this SMUD team we had a couple tables and I was excited to find out

38:06

SPEAKER_06: there's a company called Green Tech Renewables that's in the McClellan Business Park that I

38:10

SPEAKER_06: had not heard about before it's in my ward so I was thrilled to go get a tour invited

38:15

SPEAKER_06: director to my own he joined me and it was really impressive it's quite a large business and what

38:19

SPEAKER_06: they do is take in solar equipment that is used for installs of residential solar and they

38:28

Unknown: get it in bulk and then they go ahead and batteries and so forth and they repackage it and the

38:34

SPEAKER_06: customers can literally call in or type in through the computer I need this and that for my install

38:40

SPEAKER_06: tomorrow and then it's literally all boxed up and ready for them and they just come swing by drive

38:45

SPEAKER_06: through put it in their van they're off and we were really impressed that Tesla has redesigned

38:50

SPEAKER_06: their packaging for their Tesla power walls to be reusable and when you see a warehouse that's

38:56

SPEAKER_06: full of these battery walls and these giant plastic packages to see that they've actually

39:02

SPEAKER_06: changed the packaging to be completely reusable and how much waste that saves that business was

39:06

SPEAKER_06: really interesting and the cost the contractors are bringing them back and they're stacked up and

39:11

SPEAKER_06: sent back to Tesla that was neat but the business is doing really well and it was just really

39:17

SPEAKER_06: interesting they've also got new breakers that the breaker itself will switch you don't need a whole

39:21

SPEAKER_06: new panel you can just install a breaker and if you want to make sure that your car when you

39:26

SPEAKER_06: charge it is always prioritized over your stove then that one breaker can do that that's a much

39:33

SPEAKER_06: cheaper solution than a whole new panel so that's exciting for the customers so if anybody out

39:38

SPEAKER_06: there is installing a residential solar you might want to look at green tech renewables out there

39:42

SPEAKER_06: and my ward seven thanks to Trevor Hammett for the tour. I attended the National Association of

39:50

SPEAKER_06: Women Business Owners 30th annual OWL Awards and it's always wonderful to celebrate women

39:55

SPEAKER_06: business owners and their successes there were so many to mention I can't mention them all but

40:00

Unknown: want to shout out to Allison Otto of Otto Construction we've worked with them and

40:04

SPEAKER_06: she won an award the Wise Woman Award and then Kimberly Coley also from the Habitat for Humanity

40:10

SPEAKER_06: group that we work a lot with she was nominated and then on the Civic WAA Policymakers Conference

40:18

SPEAKER_06: I'm literally the first utility rep to be seated on their board and it's a real honor to serve on

40:24

SPEAKER_06: their board we had our board meeting there and you know we have an annual conference on climate and

40:30

SPEAKER_06: energy this year it'll be in Universal City June 24th and 25th if anybody is interested

40:36

Unknown: but people from all over the state come and talk about all the issues around energy and as

40:41

SPEAKER_06: other board members have said energy is top of mind the cost of energy affordability reliability

40:48

Unknown: is top of mind for almost every elected official I talked to in local government

40:52

SPEAKER_06: it was pretty much the topic at the conference that in data centers and I talked to we talked

40:58

SPEAKER_06: to several other local governments that are dealing with data centers requests and how they

41:03

SPEAKER_06: prioritize them and how they manage them and make sure that their customers are not subsidizing

41:08

SPEAKER_06: data centers and can get the best deal for the community so that was interesting and I think

41:12

SPEAKER_06: we all brought back a lot of good information from that conference so happy to serve on that board

41:17

SPEAKER_06: and with that I will turn it back over to you all right um thank you um so I also attended the

41:28

SPEAKER_03: tour of green tech and I just wanted to add a real quick thing I mean it's great that there's

41:33

SPEAKER_03: they have this one stop shop for folks that are installing batteries and solar

41:41

SPEAKER_03: so it that in itself is a great asset to have for the community and folks that want to increase

41:50

SPEAKER_03: the amount of rooftop solar but also they provide classes to their to their clients to help them

41:55

SPEAKER_03: understand you know regulations installation methods different types of hardware but also

42:03

SPEAKER_03: they talk about our our rebate programs things like that so they they're actually potentially

42:10

SPEAKER_03: a very good partner for us to you know get get our information out I attended a Tahoe Park tree

42:21

SPEAKER_03: planning and I wanted to give a shout out to uh I think about 10 SMUD employees who who came and

42:28

SPEAKER_03: volunteered at the event there were a number of folks from vegetation management and they actually

42:34

SPEAKER_03: lent their technical expertise to other teams that were kind of wondering okay are we doing this

42:40

SPEAKER_03: right so that was very helpful also folks from the environmental our environmental group and

42:48

SPEAKER_03: I and our illustrious Betty Lowe who seems to be everywhere in the community so it's great to see

42:54

SPEAKER_03: a lot of SMUD folks there but also there was a really big overall community turnout many many

43:01

SPEAKER_03: people from Tahoe Park overall there are about a hundred people there so we got 20 trees in the

43:07

SPEAKER_03: ground pretty darn quickly so and I attended also the the Nabho event and Nabho national association

43:18

SPEAKER_03: women business owners and not only do they support women here but they've

43:22

SPEAKER_03: who are you know give a lot of moral support and training support and really mentoring and

43:31

SPEAKER_03: helping people figure out how to how to grow their businesses but they also advocate at

43:37

SPEAKER_03: state and federal levels to remove barriers they over the years they've been around for 51 years

43:44

SPEAKER_03: now and they've they've been instrumental in removing some of the barriers that I was actually

43:50

SPEAKER_03: kind of shocked to learn that did exist 50 years ago that prevented women from fully participating

43:59

SPEAKER_03: independently in the economy so I think a lot of folks owe owe them and of course there's other

44:05

SPEAKER_03: people who advocated for that sort of thing but they're they're one of the leaders in that

44:10

SPEAKER_03: I was very pleased to speak at the apprentice to journey worker celebration

44:18

Unknown: I guess that was just last week and that's just a really joyous thing I know that that

44:24

SPEAKER_03: IBEW apprentices work really hard for four years they you know it's it's not a trivial thing to get

44:32

SPEAKER_03: through all the things that you need to learn and I know that a lot of the folks that were there had

44:38

SPEAKER_03: already had already completed their apprenticeships and have been working as as journey workers for a

44:46

SPEAKER_03: number of months but it was great to to actually celebrate that and you know recognize their

44:51

SPEAKER_03: accomplishment and also have their families have a chance to celebrate with them and with all of us so

44:59

SPEAKER_03: um the uh Stockton Boulevard partnership had an annual business breakfast where they

45:08

SPEAKER_03: present a number of awards to

45:13

SPEAKER_03: various businesses that are doing good things along the along the corridor and also just talk

45:20

SPEAKER_03: about some of the things that the partnership has been doing and we've been a long time

45:25

SPEAKER_03: supporter of their activities down there and oh I I forgot to mention that one of our friends

45:36

Unknown: president Lisa Cardoza of American River College was also honored as a with the impact award by the

45:45

SPEAKER_03: as a outstanding woman leader by Nabo so congratulations to to president Cardoza

45:54

SPEAKER_03: uh she's done some great work and we have a very strong partnership with American River College

46:00

SPEAKER_03: uh so in in a number of different fields of getting people ready uh for rewarding careers

46:08

SPEAKER_03: and finally I just wanted to mention this um civic well policy makers conference huge amount of

46:15

SPEAKER_03: interest in um municipal power lots of questions how do we get there I got the opportunity to to

46:26

SPEAKER_03: talk for about 15 or 20 minutes uh about some of the things that we do in the community and um

46:34

SPEAKER_03: got a lot of um you know positive comments about the things that we're able to do

46:39

SPEAKER_03: uh and all and one of our colleagues um in attendees at the meeting said you know you guys

46:47

SPEAKER_03: do all this stuff how do you keep your rates so low how do you do all that stuff and I just think

46:52

SPEAKER_03: well we've got a great great team uh that really works to you know do things efficiently do things

47:00

SPEAKER_03: smartly all the way from you know from our finance folks but all the different types of operations

47:05

SPEAKER_03: that we have in people um in all aspects of the of our organization and work really hard to

47:11

SPEAKER_03: make sure that we do things efficiently and uh in a way that that um saves us and our community

47:20

SPEAKER_03: monies and still allows us to uh do a lot of good things uh to support the community so I will um

47:29

Unknown: so oh also I got invited to the um there was a lot of cca folks their community choice aggregators

47:37

SPEAKER_03: and so I did get invited to their uh uh conference that's coming up um I think in May and uh so I'll

47:48

SPEAKER_03: have a chance to to speak to them there so there's actually a I had a lot of opportunities to talk to

47:55

SPEAKER_03: folks about things that they're doing in their communities and another thing called RANS renewable

48:03

SPEAKER_03: energy regional energy networks uh which doesn't apply in some other territory but it's a source

48:08

SPEAKER_03: of funding for supporting um a like energy efficiency and workforce development and

48:17

SPEAKER_03: since we work on the regional basis you know it just strikes me that there's some things that we

48:22

SPEAKER_03: may be able to partner with some surrounding jurisdictions in in supporting regional economic

48:29

SPEAKER_03: development and workforce development so um anyway um that's it for my report and I'll hand it over to

48:38

SPEAKER_03: Paul Lau for uh for his report well thank you so much President Tamayo so first like to start

48:45

SPEAKER_00: tonight's report by recognizing March as Women's History Month uh Smuts Women's Employee Resource

48:51

SPEAKER_00: Group is helping our employees celebrate Women's History Month by continuing to provide leadership

48:56

SPEAKER_00: training connection opportunities and resources to support professional development for all employees

49:02

Unknown: now last week we're excited to have an all-female SMUD Care volunteer team participate once again in

49:08

SPEAKER_00: Habitat for Humanity Women's Build Day so that's something that we're very proud of that we have

49:13

SPEAKER_00: great partnership with Habitat for Humanity and then we actually have some of our some of our female

49:20

SPEAKER_00: you know employees out there you know swinging hammers swinging nails and actually do the

49:24

SPEAKER_00: construction last week also celebrated uh apprentices who completed their apprenticeship

49:29

SPEAKER_00: and passed a journeyman exam in 2025 as President Tamayo said that is a huge milestone for those

49:35

SPEAKER_00: employees because and thank you President Tamayo for being there to celebrate that celebration

49:41

Unknown: now we actually had 14 apprenticeship programs at SMUD now at the celebration we had hydro high

49:47

SPEAKER_00: voltage electrician line workers network cable splicers and media tech were all represented

49:53

Unknown: the skills they gained and the role they played in keeping the lights on for hundreds of thousands

49:57

SPEAKER_00: of people in our community is critical now as you know SMUD has been training some of the best and

50:03

SPEAKER_00: safest utility workers in the country for over 50 years now their four-year apprenticeship was

50:08

SPEAKER_00: marked by a tremendous amount of hard work dedication and sacrifice and we're looking forward to all

50:14

SPEAKER_00: they'll accomplish in the year ahead at SMUD and again it was great to see uh them well all the

50:21

SPEAKER_00: apprentices along with their family they're celebrating their huge accomplishments that

50:24

SPEAKER_00: was really heartwarming now earlier today we held our shine award celebration to honor community

50:35

SPEAKER_00: we supported 196 community partners through our shine award program resulting in investing more

50:41

SPEAKER_00: than 3.9 million dollars back into Sacramento region through our local non-profits now for 2025

50:48

SPEAKER_00: to 2026 shine award cycle we awarded about 532 000 to the 26 amazing non-profit organization

SPEAKER_00: that we honor today now thank you to the board for joining us in celebrating this latest group

51:28

SPEAKER_00: heaters conversions and up to three thousand for gas electric heat pump hvac system conversion

Unknown: in Spanish and it was great to see how much she appreciated that we had all these different things
